TALLAHASSEE DOWNTOWN
TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA

DESIGN CONCEPT
The design is inspired by the notion of third place & is integral to the client’s mission of placemaking and expanding local opportunities for leisure & recreation. The design will support this concept by creating emphasis on the retail experience for visitors and featuring a local art program & creative wayfinding strategies that reflect the character of downtown Tallahassee. The selection of materials & furnishings will establish a sense of place through prominent branding & will build on existing forms within the space to create a more dynamic and purposeful environment.

PROJECT CONTEXT
Tallahassee Downtown Improvement Authority (TDIA) is a quasi-governmental entity that partners with the city of Tallahassee along with other local businesses, striving to promote a sense of community & work towards goals of placemaking. The client is centrally located on the Kleman Plaza greenspace and engages with a variety of promotional and planning events.

FLOOR PLAN

The design of the Tallahassee Downtown Improvement Authority office considers budget constraints by utilizing existing work surfaces and other furnishings, relying primarily on changes in materiality and thoughtful space planning to alleviate acoustical concerns and enhance the functionality of the space. The redesigned office demonstrates how the zoning of furniture based on use between the staff and members of the public, along with central wayfinding opportunities and layering of flooring materials, work to delineate space and support the operations that take place. The most high-traffic entry to the office is from the interior of the building. Work zones will facilitate interaction between the public while balancing goals of privacy.
